Savagery In Lord Of The Flies - 1385 Words

The human brain consists of different types of compulsion which is broken down in two parts, to follow the rules or to rebel against them. The act of our civilization is controlled by the laws and rules that we follow, where the act of our savagery is conducted by our selfish attitude. Humans tend to live either by laws of a society by the way they feel what is the right way to live. William Golding writes a creative and captivating novel, Lord of the Flies, where the inevitable truth about human nature is brought to full focus. He paints a vivid portrait of a group of British schoolboys who are isolated on an uninhabited tropical island after their plane shot down during World War II. In addition, Piggy is a character who symbolizes intelligence and level-headedness throughout the book. Consequently, Roger displays his rebellious and violent nature by killing Piggy. When him and Ralph approaches Jack s tribe and attempting to make peace the author reveals, â€Å"The rock struck piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into thousand white fragments and cease to exist. Piggy, saying nothing, with no time for even a grunt, travelled through the air sideways from the rock, turning over as he went.†(Golding 200). Perhaps if Roger had a voice of authority there to remind him that although he really acted impulsively he would have not killed Piggy. The shows, when there are no rules or laws enforced in a society humans can act out in a savage and violent manner. Every society needs to have rules, however when methods that enforce order and society are given up on, savagery and disaster become widespread.
